DURBAN BUSINESS FAIR: MADAGASCAR’S PARTICIPATION – 18 TO 21 SEPTEMBER, 2014

Madagascar, through the Madagascar South Africa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MASACCI) and various Malagasy business companies, participated in the Durban Business Fair which took place from the 18th to 21st of September, 2014 in Durban, KZN, South Africa.

The Madagascar stand was in the International Pavilion at the Fair which included Finland, India, Spain, Germany and the German-South African Chamber of Commerce.

Presentations centered around new developments in Durban which included the new Durban airport, King Shaka Airport and the nearby business hub of the Dube Trade port to name a few.

Trade Night for all exhibitors, sponsored by ABSA Bank was attended by Mrs. Louise Fox, Honorary Consul for Madagascar, Mr Gavin Jordaan, President of MASACCI (Madagascar South Africa Chamber of Commerce and Industry) and assisted by Mr Martin Jordaan. Each person at the table was given the opportunity to present its business. The Absa representative informed us of what financing was available from its bank for small businesses and new innovative products.

There was considerable interest in Madagascar by visitors to the Fair, particularly the dresses, fabrics, products, tourism, imports and exports. There was also a lot of interest in agriculture.
The Madagascar Delegation had the opportunity to meet Diplomats from Finland, India, Germany, Spain and the German-South African Chamber of Commerce.

All the Fair official brochures and speeches mentioned and acknowledged the presence of Madagascar at the Show. A DVD on Madagascar was shown at the stand at regular intervals. The Minister of Trade and Consumption, Mr. Narson Rafidimanana, was interviewed on domestic and regional TV and this was also lighted at the Show.

The Minister toured and visited the stands at the Durban Business Fair and discussed the potential of small and medium business contribution to the economy and growth of a country.

Banks were approached and their method of loaning money to small business was discussed together with government projects for loans.
